Sunningwell and District
about the Club
The club was formed in 2000 by a group of gardening enthusiasts from Sunningwell and it was known as the Sunningwell Gardening Club. Since then we have widened our catchment area so much that we have changed the name to Sunningwell & District Gardening Club.
We aim to share our interest and enjoyment of plants and gardens and membership is open to gardeners young and old. You don’t have to know a lot about gardening, though you might meet someone who does, who will be happy to share local knowledge and might just know why that plant won’t grow there…
We usually meet in Sunningwell Village Hall on the second Thursday of the month, starting at 7:30 pm and finishing around 9:30 pm. We try to get lots of good speakers on a wide range of subjects. There are two parties during the year and we have members’ meetings when we share problems and information and hold competitions. In early June we will hold our Annual Plant Sale, where you can buy all sorts of plants at ridiculous prices.
We also go on trips to places of interest, such as RHS Wisley. Last year we went to Castle Ashby Gardents. We have visited many of the interesting gardens in our area, and this year we are planning some more exciting trips.
The annual membership fee is £8 and there is a small entry fee to each of the meetings which includes refreshments after the talk.
We are always glad to see visitors and new members. You are welcome to come along to any of our regular meetings if you are interested in the talk. We are a friendly bunch, so why don't you give us a try?
